| biography:
| Historian, born in Joinville, NE France. He became seneschal to the Count of Champagne and King of Navarre, took part in the unfortunate Seventh Crusade (1248–54) of Louis IX, returned with him to France, and lived partly at court, partly on his estates. While imprisoned at Acre with Louis, he composed a Christian manual, his Credo (1250). Throughout the Crusade he took notes of events and wrote down his impressions which he fashioned, at the age of almost 80, into his delightful Histoire de Saint Louis (1309). |
