| biography:
| Huguenot leader, born in Châtillon-sur-Loing, C France. He fought in the wars of Francis I and Henry II, and in 1552 was made Admiral of France. In 1557 he became a Protestant, and commanded the Huguenots during the second and third Wars of Religion. Catherine de' Medici made him one of the first victims in the St Bartholomew's Day massacre in Paris. |
