| French soldier, born in Paris, France, the fourth son of Louis-Philippe. After an army career, at the revolution of 1848 he retired to England, where he wrote Histoire des princes de Condé (1869–97) and other works. Elected to the Assembly in 1871, in 1886 he bequeathed his magnificent château of Chantilly to the nation. |
