| biography:
| Novelist and reformer of French romance-writing, born in Paris, France. She married the Comte de La Fayette in 1655, and played a leading part at the French court. When she was 33 she formed a liaison with La Rochefoucauld which lasted until his death in 1680. Her novels are Zaïde (1670) and, recognized as a masterpiece, La Princesse de Clèves (1678), which gives a vivid picture of the court life of her day. |
