biography: Adventuress, born in St Helens, Isle of Wight, S England, UK. She grew up in a workhouse, found work as a servant in London, and became the mistress of the Duc de Bourbon (1756–1830). He arranged for her education and for her marriage to the Baron de Feuchères (1818), and presented her at the court of Louis XVIII. Bequeathed a fortune in the duke's will she was suspected of his murder (1830), but was not prosecuted due to lack of evidence.
