| biography:
| Writer of memoirs, born in Paris, France. The daughter of a poor Parisian painter, she chose to use her mother's name, Delaunay. Her devotion to her employer, the Duchesse de Maine, brought her two years in the Bastille, where she had a love affair with the Chevalier de Menil. In 1735 she married the Baron de Staal. Her Mémoires (1755) describe the world of the regency, and her Oeuvres complètes (Complete Works) appeared in 1821. |
