| biography:
| Communist leader, born in Wiederau, E Germany. While studying at Leipzig Teacher's College for Women she became a Socialist and staunch feminist, and from 1881 to 1917 was a member of the Social Democratic Party. In 1917 she was one of the founders of the radical Independent Social Democratic Party (the Spartacus League), and became a founder of the German Communist Party (1918–19). A strong supporter of the Russian Revolution, and a friend of Lenin, her influence waned after Lenin's death. |
