| biography:
| US army officer and explorer, born in Lamberton, New Jersey, USA. While serving as an army lieutenant he was sent to explore the territory around the Arkansas and Red Rivers. His party encountered a mountain peak at the foot of the Rocky Mountains, Colorado, later named Pike's Peak. He attained the rank of brigadier, and was killed in action while attacking York in the War of 1812. |
