| Heroine, probably born in present-day West Virginia, USA. Her brother, Colonel Ebenezer Zane, built Fort Henry in present-day Wheeling, WV. During a fierce Indian attack (1782), she is reputed to have run from the fort to a nearby powder magazine under Indian fire to replenish the supply of the defenders. She married twice and had seven children. |
