| Composer, born in Paris, France. He first studied law, then initiated the music group ‘Jeune France’ in 1936 with Messiaen, Jolivet, and Daniel-Lesur. He produced string quartets, works with Martenot waves, melodies, and religious music. His compositions include Le Raz de Bain (1932) for orchestra, La Dame à la Licorne, and numerous film scores, such as La Bataille du Rail (1945) by René Clément and The World of Silence (1956) by Cousteau. Later works include an oratorio Credo, and towards the end of his life his music became less descriptive. |
