From an artistic family, he studied art at the Chicago Institute, took various jobs, then joined Newspaper Enterprise Association, creating his first strip, Affairs of Jane, in 1920. Pretty girls were to dominate his career: Beautiful Bab (1922), Dumb Dora (1925), and finally Blondie (1930), which became King Features most widely syndicated strip, with the millionaire's daughter, Blondie Boopadoop, developing into a suburban housewife and mother of two. Twenty-eight films were based on the strip, as well as radio and television series. |
