| Poet, born in Würzburg, SC Germany. In 1936 he went with his family to what was then Palestine. A dozen volumes of verse since Now and in Other Days (1955, trans title) are divided in subject-matter between the idyll of childhood and the struggle of Israel to establish and defend its identity. These include Now in the Turmoil (1968, trans title), Amen (1978, trans by Amichai with Ted Hughes), and Open, Closed, Open (1998, trans title). |
