| Novelist, born in Santiago, Chile. He studied at the University of Chile and at Princeton (1949–51), and became a longshoreman, teacher, editor, and journalist. His first collection of short stories won Chile's Municipal Prize in 1951, and in 1962 he received the William Faulkner Foundation Prize for Chile, for his novel Coronation (1957). |
