| Footballer, born in Wolverhampton, West Midlands, C England, UK. An industrious wing-half, and later a central defender, he was the first player to win more than 100 caps for England (105, 90 as captain). His only senior club was Wolverhampton Wanderers, with whom he won one FA Cup Medal and three League championships. A model of deportment and sportsmanship, he went into football managership with Arsenal, and later became a television sports executive. |
