| Poet, born near Ansbach, SC Germany. One of the principal figures of the Minnesang or courtly love poetry of the chivalric age, he was a Bavarian knight who served at many courts. He is best known for his epic, Parzival (c.1200–10), which introduced the theme of the Holy Grail into German literature, and from which Wagner derived the libretto of his Parsifal. |
