| Composer and conductor, born in Warsaw, Poland. He studied at Warsaw Conservatory with Mailiszewski, and his first internationally applauded work was Concerto for Orchestra (1954). He travelled and taught widely in W Europe and the USA, being honoured with many awards. From a huge, varied output, his orchestral works stand to the fore, including Symphonic Variations (1938), a cello concerto (1970), and a piano concerto (1988). |
