| biography:
| Cartoonist and film animator, born in Spring Lake, Michigan, USA. He worked as an illustrator on various newspapers before joining the New York Herald to make his first successful strip, Dreams of a Rarebit Fiend (1904), which was filmed by Edison. He drew under his pseudonym, but used his own name for the successful Little Nemo in Slumberland (1905). His animated films include Gertie the Dinosaur (1914) and The Sinking of the Lusitania (1918), the first dramatic/documentary cartoon. |
