| Writer and feminist, born in Rudstone, East Riding of Yorkshire, NE England, UK. She studied at Oxford, and was a director from 1926 of Time and Tide. She wrote a number of novels, but is chiefy remembered for South Riding (1936, James Tait Black). With Vera Brittain she became a prominent feminist. |
