| biography:
| Jazz pianist, arranger, and composer, born in Atlanta, Georgia, USA. She left high school to become a touring show pianist. Her first important period as a performer and arranger was during the 1930s with the Kansas City-based Andy Kirk and his Clouds of Joy. Her outstanding qualities as an arranger brought her work from Duke Ellington (for whom she arranged the well-known ‘Trumpets No End’), Earl Hines, and Benny Goodman, among others. |
