| Baritone, born in Helena, Arkansas, USA. He studied at the Eastman School of Music in 1946, and in 1950 began a celebrated international career as a recitalist. Among his operatic roles was his lead in productions of Porgy and Bess during the 1950s. In 1974 he began teaching at the University of Illinois. |
