| Pathologist, born in Pikesville, Maryland, USA. He was affiliated with Johns Hopkins (1885–92), becoming resident pathologist, and then became a professor of pathology at Harvard Medical School (1892–1921). He confirmed the discovery of and described Plasmodium malariae (1893–4), the sporozoan parasite that causes malaria, and investigated amoebic dysentery. |
