| biography:
| Stage designer, born in London, UK. He studied at St Martin's and the Slade School of Art, London, and designed his first stage set at the Nottingham Playhouse in 1970. He subsequently designed many productions for the Royal Court, and has worked extensively at the National Theatre (associate designer since 1981) and the Royal Court. He has also worked in opera, his designs including Peter Hall's production of The Ring at Bayreuth in 1983. He was designer of the year (Lawrence Olivier Awards) in 1980, 1985, 1986, and 1993. In 1994 he won a BAFTA for his set design of the television period drama, Persuasion. |
