| biography:
| Art historian and curator, born in New York City, New York, USA. He studied at Columbia University (1949 BA; 1952 MA; 1959 PhD), and at the University of Paris. He taught at several institutions before joining the Museum of Modern Art (1967) as curator and director of painting and sculpture. He specialized in Dada and Surrealist art, and published many books on modern art. |
