| biography:
| Architect and designer, born in Barnstaple, Devon, SW England, UK. He worked in London (1877–87), and was a founder of the Art Workers' Guild (1884) and the Arts and Crafts Exhibition Society (c.1886). He was associated with Ernest Gimson when he designed his most important building, Avon Tyrrell near Salisbury. He was joint principal of The Central School of Arts and Crafts in 1896, and sole principal (1900–12). He also taught at the Royal College of Art. |
