| Writer and industrialist, born in Tewkesbury, Gloucestershire, SWC England, UK. He studied at Oxford, and became managing director in his father's engineering company in Birmingham, but pursued a parallel career as a writer, publishing his first book, Blindness (1926), while still an undergraduate. Other titles include Party Going (1939), Loving (1945), and Doting (1952), and an autobiographical work, Pack My Bag: a Self Portrait (1940). His writing was much admired in continental Europe. |
