| Printer and bookbinder, born in Alnwick, Northumberland, NE England, UK. A lawyer by training, he became a leader of the 19th-c revival of artistic typography, working with William Morris. In 1900 he founded the Doves Press at Hammersmith, London, whose masterpiece was the beautiful Doves Bible (1903). After the press closed in 1916, he threw the type into the Thames. |
