| biography:
| Courtier and musician, born in Pancalieri, NW Italy. After travelling to Scotland with the Duke of Savoy's embassy, he entered the service of Mary, Queen of Scots (1561), became her favourite, and was made her French secretary in 1564. He negotiated her marriage with Darnley (1565), who became jealous of his influence, and plotted his death with a group of nobles, including Morton and Ruthven. Rizzio was dragged from the queen's presence and murdered. |
