| Legal scholar, born in New Albany, Indiana, USA. A Harvard graduate, he earned a law degree at the University of Minnesota. He was a member of the law faculties of the University of Minnesota (1929–42) and Harvard (1947–8) before becoming dean of the law school at the University of California, Berkeley (1948–63). He published books on torts. |
