| Fur trader and merchant, born in Lincoln Co, Kentucky, USA. He moved to Missouri c.1818 and made a fortune in the fur trade. In partnership with Jedediah Strong Smith and David E Jackson, he brought the first wagons over the Oregon Trail to the Rocky Mts (1830). |
