| Businessman, born in Queenscliff, Victoria, SE Australia. He gained an interest in the London Bank of Australia, and invested in lead and zinc extraction at Broken Hill, New South Wales. A member of the Legislative Council of Victoria (1901–22), he was involved in most significant business developments of the period and was a founder of the Melbourne newspaper The Herald. His son, Clive Latham Baillieu (1889–1967), became 1st Baron Baillieu of Sefton in 1953. |
