| Queen of The Netherlands (1890–1948), born in The Hague, The Netherlands. She succeeded her father William III at the age of 10, her mother acting as regent until 1898. An upholder of constitutional monarchy, she especially won the admiration of her people during World War 2. Though compelled to seek refuge in Britain, she steadfastly encouraged Dutch resistance to the German occupation. In 1948, she abdicated in favour of her daughter Juliana, and assumed the title of Princess of The Netherlands. |
