| Pioneer of photography, born in Melbury Abbas, Dorset, S England, UK. He studied at Cambridge, and became an MP (1833). In 1838 he succeeded in making photographic prints on silver chloride paper, which he termed ‘photogenic drawing’, and he later developed and patented the Calotype process. |
