| biography:
| Potter, birthplace unknown. He trained in Chelsea, MA under John G Low, and then set up his Grueby Faience Co in 1894 (incorporated in 1897). His hand-thrown pottery won many awards internationally, and the L C Tiffany Co bought Grueby bases for its stained-glass lampshades. His success did not bring him wealth, as many competitors flooded the market with imitations. He also founded Grueby Pottery (incorporated 1907). |
