| Cricketer, born in Downend, South Gloucester, SWC England, UK. By 1864 he was playing cricket for Gloucester County, and was chosen for the Gentlemen v. the Players at 16. He practised medicine in Bristol, but his main career was cricket. He toured Canada, the USA, and Australia, twice captaining the English team. His career in first-class cricket (1865–1908) as batsman and bowler brought 126 centuries, 54 896 runs, and 2876 wickets. |
