| Educator and marine and aeronautic engineer, born in Beacon Falls, Connecticut, USA. An authority on the dynamics of ship and aeroplane propellers, he developed ways of minimizing loss of propulsive efficiency. He taught engineering at Lafayette College and Cornell and Stanford universities before retirement (1924), and was an adviser on the Boulder and Grand Coulee Dam projects. |
