| Photojournalist, born in Wichita, Kansas, USA. He left Notre Dame University to work for Newsweek magazine in 1937. A photographer with Life (1939–41) and a war correspondent (1942–54), his photo essays focused on life in small villages in many parts of the world. In 1971 he captured the suffering of Japanese families poisoned by eating fish contaminated by mercury originating from waste dumped at sea. |
