| biography:
| Reformer and temperance propagandist, born in Coventry, New York, USA. He became a journalist, and later a special officer in the US Indian Service (1908–11), where he received his nickname from his methods of raiding gambling saloons in Indian Territory. He was prominent during the prohibitionist movement in the USA, and lectured for the cause all over Europe. In 1919 he lost an eye when he was struck and dragged from a lecture platform in London by medical students. |
