| Historical and religious painter, born in Aberdeen, NE Scotland, UK. In 1825 he went to Rome, where he developed sympathies with the Nazarenes, and transmitted these to the Pre-Raphaelites. From 1844 he was professor of fine arts at King's College, London. He executed frescoes in several London locations, including the new House of Lords. Aberdeen's Dyce airport is named after him. |
