| Organist and composer, born in Nether Ettington, Warwickshire, C England, UK. In 1700 he became a chorister in the Chapel Royal, and in 1707 sole organist. In 1708 he succeeded his teacher, John Blow, as organist of Westminster Abbey and choirmaster of the Chapel Royal. Thirty of his anthems for state ceremonies were printed in 1724. |
