| Computer engineer and entrepreneur, born in Red Cloud, Nebraska, USA. He helped found Engineering Research Associates in St Paul, MN (late 1940s), which merged with Sperry Rand. He headed Sperry Rand's Univac Division until 1957, when he founded Control Data Corp in Minneapolis, retiring as its chairman and chief executive officer in 1986. He also became an advocate of government and business co-operation, job creation, efficiency, and technological innovation. |
