| Publisher, born in Edinburgh, EC Scotland, UK. He established himself as a bookseller in Edinburgh in 1804, and in 1817 started Blackwood's Magazine. His sons Alexander Blackwood (1806–45) and Robert Blackwood (1808–52) took over the firm between 1834 and 1852, followed by John Blackwood (1818–79), who published all but one of George Eliot's novels. |
