| Banker and US senator, born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA. He made a fortune in trade and privateering, and founded (1781) and directed the Bank of North America. He also founded Binghamton, NY, and was president of the Philadelphia and Lancaster Turnpike Corp. He served as a US senator (1795–1801). His wife, Anne Willing Bingham, a leader in Philadelphia society, frequently entertained George Washington. |
