| Pastoral poet, born in Sturminster Newton, Dorset, S England, UK. He taught in a school at Dorchester, then went to Cambridge and took holy orders. He became curate of Whitcombe in 1847, and rector of Winterborne Came, Dorset, in 1862. His three volumes of poetry were collected in 1879 as Poems of Rural Life in the Dorset Dialect. He also wrote several philological works. |
