| Sailor, born in Hoorn, W Netherlands. He wrote the Journael, ofte Gedenckwaerdige beschrijvinghe vande Oost-Indische Reyse van Willem Ysbrantsz. Bontekoe van Hoorn, begrijpende veel wonderlijcke en gevaerlijcke saecken hem daer in wedervaren (1646, Journal, or the memorable descriptions of the voyage of Willem Ysbrantsz. Bontekoe of Hoorn to the East-Indies, containing many strange and dangerous matters that happened to him), an account of his adventurous and ill-fated voyage to the Indies. The story, popularly known as the Journal, was reprinted over 50 times and translated into French and German. |
