| Writer, born in Winschoten, N Netherlands. After a short career as a teacher, he studied law and became a lawyer, defending mainly socialists. He was a co-founder of the magazine De Nieuwe Gids, but felt unappreciated and soon left. His best work is Vincent Haman (1898), which parodies the poets of the Movement of the Eighties (Beweging van Tachtig). He also wrote novels and some plays. |
