| biography:
| Novelist, poet, and journalist, born in Amsterdam, The Netherlands. A student of English language and literature, he became editor of Tirade and worked as a literary critic. His first work was the collected short poems, Een zwaluw vol zaagsel (1973, A Swallow Full of Sawdust). Characteristic of his entire oeuvre are his contemplations about the problematic relation between identity, thought, observation, and writing. In his later works, he increasingly focuses on ethical issues, including euthanasia and suicide, as in his novel Ons mankeert niets (1994, There is Nothing Wrong with Us), which tells the story of a young doctor who is confronted with the death wish of his predecessor. |
