| Painter, born in Cologne, W Germany. He studied in Paris, being much influenced by Courbet's Realism, and later worked in Munich. Most of his paintings are genre scenes of Bavaria and the lower Alps, although he painted a number of portraits, notably ‘Three Women in a Church’ (1878–82, Kunsthalle). |
