| Cricketer, born in Kirkheaton, West Yorkshire, N England, UK. He played for Yorkshire and England, and during his career (1898–1930) took a world record 4187 wickets and scored 39 722 runs. He took 100 wickets in a season 23 times, and performed the ‘double’ of 1000 runs and 100 wickets 16 times - first-class cricket records. The oldest man to play Test cricket, he was 52 years 165 days when he played for England against the West Indies at Kingston in April 1930. |
