| Economist, born in Offenbach, Germany. He emigrated to the USA in 1945, studied at Harvard (PhD), then taught at Vanderbilt University (1965–74) and the University of Illinois, Urbana (1974). A specialist in Latin-American industrialization and economic growth, he wrote such works as Industrialization and Economic Development in Brazil (1965) and The Brazilian Economy (1979, later revised). |
