| Classicist, born in Coquille, Oregon, USA. He studied at the University of Washington (1945 BA) and the University of Chicago (1948), and taught at Harvard (1959). He was arguably the most respected American textual critic of his generation of classicists, known for his Persi et Iuvenalis Saturae (1959) and Appendix Vergiliana (1966). |
